Exploring Nadi - Gettin Dirty

We had decided in Fiji we would only do one small tour to discover a bit about Nadi, the town close to where we are staying. We didn't realize that this would be a private tour and our tour guide came to pick us up in a car.

Our first stop was at the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, an Indian Buddist Temple. We had to take our shoes off to enter the grounds and wear sarongs but what we were not told was the ceramic tiles were scorching hot and our feet were getting burnt. After hearing our distress someone came to tell us to walk on the white concrete path. While it was still hot, at least we could walk on it.

The temple is quite colourful and a lot of detail in the designs and artwork. We were not allowed to take pictures inside.

Next stop was in downtown Nadi, where we were taken to a store full of souvenirs, so we pick up some T-Shirts from Fiji.

Afterwards we went to a market to look around. A vendor got us to try Kava, a liquid made of this root that is supposed to be good for your stomach. Not the best tasting stuff for sure.

Once the shopping was done, we headed to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. There is a mountain here called the sleeping giant, where you can see him lying on his back ... chin, nose and mouth open on the right and his big belly to the left. Barb thinks it kind of looks like Dave, sleeping on his back, mouth open and snoring!!

The gardens were nice, we were told to follow the path and if we wanted we could go up to the lookout. It wasn't a really easy climb, but we did manage and got some great photos,

Our final stop on this tour was to get a bit dirty, heading to the Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool. We were to get covered in mud, all over, let it dry then wash off in 4 different pools that were quite warm. Our guide told us the mud is good for the skin, and you cannot do this anywhere else in the world. That's funny, I think our friends did this similar mud bath, only in St. Lucia!! Different mud I guess.

We arrived back to our hotel in time for dinner.  Today was a rest day sitting out on the beach and reading a book.

Tomorrow we will spend our day here, then catch an overnight flight to Los Angeles.  We leave Fiji at 9:40 pm on Wednesday Nov 22nd and cross the international date line and the equator overnight, landing in LA at 11:50 am on Wednesday Nov 22nd.  This 10 hour flight will be interesting to see how we do and how tired we will be when we land.

Our next posts will be from there, back in North America.
