La La Land

Leaving Fiji's incredible sunsets was tough. Barb was obsessed with taking pictures of them! Unfortunately we had a problem with our camera so not all of them were good, ugh.


  

We had a long but wonderful flight from Fiji to Los Angeles on a huge Airbus 370.  69 rows of 9 on this airplane but it was a very smooth take off and landing. We had plenty of leg room but only a couple broken hours of sleep. Our flight was 10 hours long, and as we crossed the International Dateline again, we gained 24 hours plus 4 more hours from Fiji to LA ... very strange to keep track of and know when to sleep and what meal to eat and when, especially when we just don't sleep well on a plane.

Our room here is LA was ready when we arrived, and we went right to bed at 3 pm. We forced ourselves to wake up at 6ish to have some dinner then right back to our room. Slept almost 12 hours waking this morning around 10.

So today was a lazy day, but we have managed to set up some tours for the next couple of days to explore Los Angeles.  

I think we are both anxious to get home, especially when we got a report today of a leak in our condo that is being investigated and repaired.  We don't think it is from or unit but we aren't completely sure.  It is thankfully being looked after and should be resolved/repaired before we get back home.

Final thoughts about Fiji. It is a great place to visit, while we mentioned that we were not in the postcard location, we really enjoyed our time there. Things we did find out however. They run on Fiji time, not unlike Cuba or other Caribbean locations, you will get what you order when they get around to it, so don't be in a hurry for anything.  We also had some interesting services.  For example, the menu indicated only 3 of the red wines on the menu are offered by the glass. The rest are by the bottle.  If you order a wine only served by the bottle, you won't be reminded of this restriction, they simply say okay then bring you something else.  Dave's order for Merlot was replaced with a Shiraz, without any comment.  Barb ordered a meal with pasta, chicken and mushrooms which were on the menu, but she received the fish version with shrimp and fish. No chicken or mushrooms.  It was good but we had to laugh, seems more like you get a reasonable substitute regardless of what you ordered based on our lower budget hotel

    Enjoy L.A. "It never rains in California" so get on over to that hop-on-hop-off bus! Happy star-gazing!

When we planned this trip and have told folks about it, everyone said, oh wow, you're going to Fiji!!! Yes we are here. Wonders of Warner Bros

Today was our last full day in Los Angeles. We decided to visit Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank to take a tour and see how movies and TV shows are made. Very interesting tour. We started out with a full hour with a tour guide taking us around this 110 acres full of 31 sound studios and many streets that have been used and transformed for many movies.  this little building was the comic book store on The Big Bang Theory! Many of these buildings are just facades, only the front is there, they really are not full buildings.  Some however are, and usually they have multiple entrances and doorways so the same building can be used for different scenes on different shows.  the house on The Gilmour Girls Next we visited one of the 31 sound studios. These are the warehouse type buildings that are completely sound proof when you go inside. Camping in the Australian Outback

Our travels are well planned out long before we take any trips, especially one this long. Barb had told friends that we were even going to camp (glamping) in the Outback. This is why we are here at Uluru or as the English naming is called Ayers Rock. If you have seen any advertising about traveling to Australia, you would have seen the Sydney Opera House and possibly this large red rock / mountain in the Northern Territories of this country. We arrived the day before our tour which we like to do, just so we are not rushed. The hotel was nice and we even got to visit the local camel farm.  Shuttle bus runs continuously to take hotel guests around from hotel to hotel and this camel farm.  We started out on this tour when the bus came to pick us up in front of our hotel.
