The Kuranda Rainforest

We had a few major goals for this trip through Australia. See our Australian friends, the Sydney Opera House, beaches in Sydney (Manly, Bondi etc), seeing wildlife, holding a Koala, the Great Barrier Reef, Ayers Rock (Ularu) and the Outback. 

Yesterday we visited the Kuranda Rainforest in Cairns. Our bus picked us up at the Skyrail parking lot and the adventure began. We had several hours visiting the Rainforest Nature Park. Well it was a day, first thing we come across are kangaroos, just walking around an enclosure. We were able to buy food for them and it was a treat being able to feed and pet these animals!






We also had the opportunity to have photos taken holding a Koala and saw other animals native to this country. 





We got to feed a cassowary.



There were aboriginal presentations made by our guide, showing us how they throw spears and boomerangs, giving everyone a chance to throw the boomerang and make it come back. We know how to do it now, just need a few more hours of practice.


After this park, we were taken to Kuranda Village, a small tourist area where we chose to come down the Skyrail instead of the bus, back to our car. Dave does not like heights, everyone knows this, but he did agree to take this ride. At times he was doing the white knuckle hold, and even growled at  Barb to sit still because our cable car was rocking. But we did survive and took some amazing pictures. 




Back at our apartment, a swim was required to cool off and then take out pizza for dinner and early to bed. We woke this morning at 3:45 am to catch our flight to Ayers Rock. More about this place tomorrow.

    That’s awesome so glad you got to see our wildlife and the sky rail is also spectacular.

    Hopefully they will be on our back fence when you come to stay. They feed their most mornings. see you soon

    I envy you with the Kangaroos and the Kawalas (sp? - I don't speak Australia(:-) And the cassowaries and all the other native animals!!! Big Sis!

When we planned this trip and have told folks about it, everyone said, oh wow, you're going to Fiji!!! Yes we are here. Wonders of Warner Bros

Today was our last full day in Los Angeles. We decided to visit Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank to take a tour and see how movies and TV shows are made. Very interesting tour. We started out with a full hour with a tour guide taking us around this 110 acres full of 31 sound studios and many streets that have been used and transformed for many movies.  this little building was the comic book store on The Big Bang Theory! Many of these buildings are just facades, only the front is there, they really are not full buildings.  Some however are, and usually they have multiple entrances and doorways so the same building can be used for different scenes on different shows.  the house on The Gilmour Girls Next we visited one of the 31 sound studios. These are the warehouse type buildings that are completely sound proof when you go inside. Camping in the Australian Outback

Our travels are well planned out long before we take any trips, especially one this long. Barb had told friends that we were even going to camp (glamping) in the Outback. This is why we are here at Uluru or as the English naming is called Ayers Rock. If you have seen any advertising about traveling to Australia, you would have seen the Sydney Opera House and possibly this large red rock / mountain in the Northern Territories of this country. We arrived the day before our tour which we like to do, just so we are not rushed. The hotel was nice and we even got to visit the local camel farm.  Shuttle bus runs continuously to take hotel guests around from hotel to hotel and this camel farm.  We started out on this tour when the bus came to pick us up in front of our hotel. We checked our larger bags in to storage with the hotel, because there would not be room for two large 50 pound bags. Our carry-on bags would be enough, after all we were only staying for one night.
